About me
Education & Experience
My name is Astrid Amels,
I am an English and Dutch translator. I have always loved the English language, even as a child, which is why my choice for the School for Translation and Interpreting in Maastricht was the obvious one. I graduated in 2000, specialising in the translation of legal documents, and I was sworn in at the ’s-Hertogenbosch District Court. I subsequently entered the employment of a large law firm as in-house translator. I worked there for five years, gaining legal knowledge and working among lawyers and civil-law notaries.
After that period, I was employed as translator for more than nine years at a medium-sized translation agency, where I became acquainted with the commercial side of the translation business and everything that it entails. In addition to legal texts, I also translated business texts, slightly financial texts, general texts and culinary texts, both from Dutch into English and from English into Dutch. Ever since my graduation, I have attended several training courses for translators every year in order to keep my knowledge up to date and expand it.
In addition, I am a member of the Netherlands Association of Interpreters and Translators (www.ngtv.nl). With effect from 2015, I am offering my services as a freelance translator under the name of 040taaldiensten.
